Frequently Asked Questions

How do parents keep up to date with their child/children’s progress and activities?

Little Jesters Preschool keep a record of achievement and development for each child, this is called their Learning journal.

Your children’s record of achievement is one of the ways in which staff and parents work together in partnership. Your child’s record of achievement helps us to celebrate achievements together and to work together to provide what your child needs to develop and make progress.

We encourage parents/carers to look through your child’s learning journal regularly so you are aware of what your child has been doing at Little Jesters and what their next steps are. You are welcome to take your child’s journal home to look through, but please remember to return it so we can continue to update it.

Your child’s keyperson will work with you to keep this record. Information shared on your child’s needs, activities, interests and achievements will enable the keyperson to identify your child’s stage of progress. You and the keyperson can then discuss how to help your child to move on to the next stage.

Will my Child/Children be assigned a Keyperson??

Our keyperson system gives each member of staff particular responsibility for just a few children. Each child has one special adult to relate to and make sure they are happy so making settling into preschool much easier. In addition, the keyperson is in a position to tailor the curriculum to the unique needs of each individual child. The keyperson maintains links with the child’s home setting, and works with parents, along with observation and record-keeping, to ensure that all children are supported in reaching their full potential.

What is the difference between a nursery and a pre-school?

Pre-schools are early years settings which provide education for children aged two to five. Combined with childcare, children going to pre-school will learn and play in a more structured environment to help them with the transition to Reception.

The national curriculum is followed and taught, such as the early years foundation stage (EYFS) in England, which covers seven areas of learning including communication and language, maths and expressive arts and design.

Pre-schools, which are sometimes attached to primary schools, are usually open during school term-times, which means they are closed during school holidays.

A nursery can accept children from Babies until aged 5, offering differing hours for sessions and a relaxed learning environment.

Can parents attend settling in days?

Your child’s transition into Little Jesters Pre-School is extremely important to us and we aim to ensure they have fun and engaging time from day one. If, as a parent you feel your child would benefit from you bring present in the setting during the first few sessions then this is something we would work with you on to create an individual programme to suit your child’s needs.

What should my child wear at Little Jesters Pre-School?

Although we provide aprons for messy play and painting, it is best to send your child in old clothes that are easily washable and that you do not mind getting messy. Simple clothing which your child can fasten and unfasten themselves is a good idea as this will enable them to go to the toilet when they need to, to put their coat on for outdoor play when necessary, so helping them to become independent. For safety reasons it is vital that your child wears appropriate footwear – trainers or other soft soled shoes are ideal. Could we also ask that your child comes dressed appropriately for the weather – sun hat/cream, wellingtons and waterproof coats etc are essential as the children play outside every day.

What will my child eat at Little Jesters Pre-School?

Children are able to bring in a packed lunch to Little Jesters or if parents prefer there is the option for your child to have hot dinners which are provided by Good Lookin Cookin to Faldingworth Primary School. All children are entitled to a morning snack and can access Faldingworth Primary School Tuck Shop on a Friday with a 20p donation.
